Avatar is a 3-D science fiction epic film written and directed by James Cameron, due to be released on December 16, 2009[1] by 20th Century Fox. The film is Lightstorm Entertainment's latest project, and focuses on an epic conflict on a far-away world called Pandora, where humans and the native species of Pandora, the Na'vi, engage in a war over the planet's resources and existence.[7]
The film will be released in 2D and 3D formats, along with an IMAX 3D release in selected theaters. The film is being touted as a breakthrough in terms of filmmaking technology, for its development of 3D viewing and stereoscopic filmmaking with cameras that were specially designed for the film's production.[8] The film has been rated PG-13 by the MPAA for intense epic battle sequences and warfare, sensuality, language and some smoking.[9]
The film is slated to win two awards even before its premiere.

Plot
In the distant future, Jake Sully, a paraplegic war veteran, is offered a second chance in the military. He's transported to a planet called Pandora, where the world's armed forces have been pit in a fierce battle against the planet's native species (the na'vi) for years, struggling to mine a vital energy source for earth, which vastly rests under the na'vi settlement.
Jake takes part in a new war strategy, which involves regular human DNA being mixed with DNA fragments of the natives to form an AVATAR, which is essentially a human disguised as one of the creatures themeselves. Jake is told to act as a spy within the na'vi camp, learning their culture, and more importantly, weaknesses.
Being able to walk again whilst in his avatar, and somewhat wanting to prove that 'he can pass any test a man can pass", Jake is fully devoted to the mission and journeys into hostile na'vi territory. But, upon arival, Jake witnesses the first-hand mass slaughter and continous destruction of the na'vi race, by none other than his own troops. Instead of being the agressive, blood-thirsty aliens they were made out to be, the na'vi are largley the victims of the war, harbouring a peaceful society which is under attack and risking total-destruction due to the unsought war.
Jake knows he can't just stand by, and not do anything about the humane annihilation, so he enlists the help of na'vi princess Neytiri, and turns the tables by giving the na'vi vital human intelligence, and ultimately leading them in an epic battle to fight for their land against the invaders.

'New Moon' breaks boxoffice record

'New Moon' breaks boxoffice record
'New Moon' breaks boxoffice recordSummit Entertainment’s vampire-romance sequel “The Twilight Saga: New Moon” rung up a record $72.7 million in opening-day boxoffice on Friday, easily topping domestic rankings.

That bested a previous single-day boxoffice mark of $67.2 million, set by Warner Bros.’ Batman sequel “The Dark Knight” in July 2008.The first-day tally for “New Moon” included $26.3 million in boxoffice from a total 3,514 performances at12:01 a.m. Friday, which set a record for witching-hour coin.

Consensus pre-release forecasts put the likely first-weekend tally for “New Moon” at $85 million-plus. Not even a meteoric burnout on Saturday and Sunday would keep the largely female-fueled film from soaring well past those projections.

“Dark Knight” holds the record for the biggest opening ever, at $158.4 million. Whether “New Moon” – which is playing in more than 4,024 locations this weekend – will hold up well enough in its second and third days of release to approach that record is virtually unknowable, as the sequel is traveling into uncharted territory for the franchise.

The original “Twilight” – released a year ago this weekend – collected $36 million in its first day of release and $69.6 million in its first weekend. And that was considered a major over-performance at the time.

Elsewhere in the daily rankings, Warners’ Sandra Bullock-toplined drama “The Blind Side” debuted with $10.8 million, good for second place on the day. That’s a terrific start for the feel-good pigskin pic, which some thought would get blind-sided by “New Moon” and fail to rise above teen millions on the weekend.

Sony’s animated feature “Planet 51” landed in fifth place with a soft $3.2 million in first-day boxoffice. But the PG-rated pic should find a more lucrative orbit once Saturday and Sunday matinees kick in.

Sony’s scifi actioner “2012” -- which topped domestic rankings a week earlier – was third among all Friday grosses with $8.1 million. That gives the Roland Emmerich pic an $89.8 million cume through its first eight days in the marketplace.

'New Moon' breaks midnight screening record
Opening at midnight Thursday in North America, "New Moon" was way over the moon.

The second installment in the "Twilight" franchise scooped up an estimated $26.27 million in 3,514 theaters for a per-theater average of $7,476.

In doing so, it surpassed the previous record-setter in the midnight arena, "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince," at $22.2 million.

Summit also played the original "Twilight" movie in 2,057 on Thursday as a 9 p.m. warm-up screening for "Moon," and it grossed an additional $1.3 million.

On Friday, "Moon" will be playing in 4,024 theaters as it settles in for its first weekend run.

The Twilight Saga: New Moon

The Twilight Saga: New Moon

New Moon (marketed as The Twilight Saga: New Moon and also known as Twilight 2) is an upcoming 2009 American romantic fantasy film scheduled for release on November 20, 2009. It is based on the novel of the same name by Stephenie Meyer and is the sequel to 2008's Twilight, which is based on Meyer's previous novel. Summit Entertainment greenlit the sequel in late November 2008, following the early success of Twilight. Directed by Chris Weitz, the film stars Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, and Taylor Lautner, reprising their roles as Bella Swan, Edward Cullen, and Jacob Black, respectively. Melissa Rosenberg returns as the screenwriter for the film. She handed in a draft of the film script during the opening weekend of Twilight.

Plot
When asked about the sequel, Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke stated, "It's got werewolves, it's got visual effects that turn people into werewolves, it's got motorcycle stunts, you go to Italy. It's probably twice as much as [Twilight to film].
On December 13, 2008, Summit Entertainment released a synopsis of New Moon, which states: "Bella Swan is devastated by the abrupt departure of her vampire love, Edward Cullen, but her spirit is rekindled by her growing friendship with the irresistible Jacob Black. Suddenly she finds herself drawn into the world of the werewolves, ancestral enemies of the vampires, and finds her loyalties tested."

2012 Movies Preview

This article is about the film. For metaphysical and cosmological predictions centered on December 21, 2012, see 2012 phenomenon.
2012 is a 2009 disaster film directed by Roland Emmerich. The film has an ensemble cast, including John Cusack, Amanda Peet, Danny Glover, Thandie Newton, Oliver Platt, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Woody Harrelson. The film will be distributed by Columbia Pictures. Filming began in August 2008 in Vancouver.

Plot
The film begins in year 2009, when there is a huge explosion on the surface of the sun. We then see Adrian Helmsley travelling to India to meet his friend, who discovered that Earth's temperature is increasing rapidly. He returns to America and submits a report to his supervisor, who immediately takes him to president. In 2010, we see billionaires all over the world buying plane tickets for untold sums of money. Later it is revealed that The Institute for Human Continuity, a covert organization aware of the situation, has begun building huge arks beneath the Himalayan Mountains designed to withstand natural disasters, in order to save humanity, significant species, and mankind's greatest treasures in Tibet The story jumps ahead to 2011, to Jackson Curtis (John Cusack), a divorced father who works as a limousine driver and writer, and his ex-wife, Kate Curtis (Amanda Peet), and children, Noah (Liam James) and Lily (Morgan Lily), who live with Kate's new boyfriend, Gordon (Thomas McCarthy).
In the Mayan city of Tikal in Guatemala, the victims of a mass suicide adhere to the Mayan Long Count Calendar, which (according to the film) predicts that the end of the world will occur at the end of the current cycle, on or around December 21, 2012, which also coincides with the Galactic Alignment of December 21, 2012 (the northern hemisphere's winter solstice). There are debates about how and when the world's governments will alert their citizens, and how to select those who will survive Armageddon. Meanwhile, on a trip to Yellowstone with his children, Jackson meets Charlie Frost (Woody Harrelson), who hosts a radio segment that addresses the Mayans' prediction.
Enormous cracks soon develop along the San Andreas Fault, California. Despite government assurances that all is fine, Jackson grows suspicious. Hiring a private plane and gathering supplies, he drives to Kate's home to save his family and Gordon from the impending earthquakes of the Earth's crust displacement. Jackson quickly collects his family, and, Gordon pilots a plane out of the city. Los Angeles then collapses into the Pacific Ocean. When the plane runs low on fuel, they are forced to land in Wyoming. Jackson uses the moment to contact Charlie. Against Kate's will, Jackson and Lily go to look for Charlie, though discover his van empty. Over the radio, they learn that Charlie has gone to the mountains to watch the approaching catastrophe. Jackson takes the van to save Charlie, though Charlie refuses to leave. As Jackson and Lily escape from the now-erupting Yellowstone Supervolcano, Charlie mentions a map in the van that shows an escape route. Jackson and Lily drive back to the plane through a fiery maelstrom of lava, which kills Charlie. Upon arrival, Lily runs to the plane, while Jackson searches for the map, but takes too long to find it. As the earth opens up, the van falls into a crevasse. The family is horrified, but must leave. Jackson, however, was able to grab onto a ledge, and succeeds in reaching the plane, as the ground collapses. He is just fast enough to enter.
Huge earthquakes occur in South America; Washington D.C. has a tsunami in which the USS John F. Kennedy crushes the White House; and St. Peter's Basilica in Vatican City crumbles, killing thousands. The U.S. Government finally admits that it is the end of the world. Jackson's group must find their way to China to board the arks, though the small plane is insufficient for the journey. Upon finding a much larger plane, they discover that it is already filled. However, Gordon stumbles upon an old client, Tamara (Beatrice Rosen). She is now accompanying Russian billionaire Yuri Karpov (Zlatko Buric), who owns the plane. Jackson pleads with Yuri to allow them aboard, but Yuri refuses. Yuri's pilot, Sasha (Johann Urb), then states that he requires a co-pilot, whereupon Jackson points out that Gordon is an experienced pilot. The group eventually boards the plane, as the airport is destroyed by earthquakes.
While in the air, Sasha learns that the plane does not have enough fuel to reach China. He informs Gordon, and they agree to ditch. Sasha then discovers that they are no longer above the ocean: the Earth's crust has shifted thousands of miles and they are heading towards the Himalayas. Knowing the risks of landing the plane upon the snow, he suggests that the passengers go to the cargo bay where many cars are held, while he and Gordon maintain the controls and open the cargo door from the cockpit. They plan for the group to drive the cars from the cargo bay onto the ground below. Gordon reluctantly abandons Sasha in the cockpit and runs to the cars just in time. Sasha manages to land the plane on a cliff, but dies when it collapses. The remaining members land safely. Before they have time, Chinese helicopters carrying animals fly above. One helicopter descends, though the group finds that they will need to pay to get aboard. Yuri pays for himself and his sons, but refuses to pay for the others. Before boarding, Yuri tells Tamara that he knows she had an affair with Sasha.
The group has no choice but to hike over the mountains. A car soon drives by, and Jackson throws a rock at it. The car backs up, and the occupants allow the group to join them. In the car are a Buddhist monk, Nima (Osric Chau), and his grandmother (Lisa Lu). They are driving to meet Nima's brother Tenzin (Chin Han), who has a plan to sneak into an ark. When Jackson and company arrive with Nima and his grandmother, Tenzin is infuriated. He tells Nima that his plan could not possibly accommodate so many people, and that the others are unable to come. Jackson and Kate insist that Tenzin take the children. After further discussion, Tenzin allows the entire group to join.
The continental shift now causes massive tsunamis, flooding much of the world, including India and even the Himalayan mountains. The tsunamis now travel towards the arks. Jackson's group manages to sneak aboard an ark with the help of Tenzin. Carl Anheuser (Oliver Platt), the President's Chief of Staff, now Commander In Chief since Thomas Wilson, the President of the United States (Danny Glover) died when he remained in America, orders that the gates be closed, as supplies are insufficient. During the closing of the gates, Tenzin's leg is crushed and Gordon is killed. Yuri sacrifices himself to put his two sons on the ark. Adrian Helmsley (Chiwetel Ejiofor), American scientist and the other world leaders order the gates be re-opened for remaining survivors. The gears of a gate on the group's ark become stuck and grind to a halt, leaving the gate partly-open. Tamara drowns when she is trapped in a chamber with rising waters. The engines of the ark cannot be started unless the gates are closed. As a tsunami hits the ark, a main supporting structure breaks, and the ark floats towards Mount Everest. Jackson and Noah manage to fix the ark's gear and the gate finally closes. The engines are re-activated to avoid hitting the mountains. The ark does make impact with Mount Everest, but sustains little damage. When the flood eventually recedes, the captains of the arks decide upon the Cape of Good Hope in South Africa as a suitable place to reestablish humanity.

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince is a 2009 fantasy-adventure film based on the novel of the same name by J. K. Rowling. It is the sixth film in the Harry Potter film series. It is directed by David Yates, the director of the fifth film, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. David Heyman and David Barron produced the film, and the screenplay was written by Steve Kloves, the screenwriter of the first four films. Filming began on 24 September 2007, and the film was released in cinemas worldwide on 15 July 2009, one day short of the fourth anniversary of the corresponding novel's release. Unlike the previous film, the sixth film was not simultaneously released in regular cinemas and IMAX 3-D in all countries, due to a Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen several week commitment. The film will instead be released in IMAX 3D on 29 July, two weeks after its original release, in these countries.

The film opened to critical acclaim and commercial success, and broke the records for biggest midnight opening gross of all time as well as biggest single-day worldwide gross of all time. In five days the film made $391 million, breaking the record for biggest five-day worldwide gross in history. The film is dedicated to the memory of actor Rob Knox[9] who portrays Marcus Belby in the film and was killed in May 2008.

Plot
Having returned to power, Death Eaters attack both the Muggle and Wizarding worlds, ravaging the Millenium Bridge and Diagon Alley in the process. Lord Voldemort has given Draco Malfoy an assignment. Bellatrix Lestrange goads Severus Snape into making an Unbreakable Vow with Draco's mother, Narcissa, to protect him while he tries to fulfill his duty, and to carry out the assignment if Draco fails.

Scarred by his experience at the Ministry of Magic with Voldemort, Harry is reluctant to return to school. Dumbledore appears and encourages Harry to continue and takes his help in enticing former Potions Professor Horace Slughorn to return to Hogwarts. After Slughorn reluctantly agrees to return, Dumbledore transports Harry to the Burrow, where he begins to feel romantic feelings for Ginny. While leaving Fred and George's new shop in Diagon Alley, Harry, Ron and Hermione notice Draco associating with known Death Eaters in Borgin and Burkes, leaving Harry suspicious.

At Hogwarts, Harry and Ron borrow textbooks from the school for Slughorn's Potions class. The previous owner of Harry's copy, the "Half-Blood Prince", has annotated the book with additional instructions and spellcraft that allow Harry to excel in class and win a vial of the liquid luck, Felix Felicis. Ron becomes a Gryffindor Quidditch hero, attracting the love of Lavender Brown, leaving Hermione heartbroken. Harry is similarly distraught over Ginny's attraction to Dean Thomas.

Harry spends Christmas Break with the Weasleys. While he is discussing the situation at Hogwarts with other Order of the Phoenix members, Bellatrix Lestrange and Fenrir Greyback attack and try to kidnap Harry, resulting in a short duel involving Harry and Ginny. The Order are able to keep everyone safe but the Burrow is burned to the ground.

Draco continues to elude Harry while perfecting the use of a Vanishing Cabinet inside the Room of Requirement. Harry suspects Draco is behind two attempts on Dumbledore's life: one through a cursed necklace (which accidently hospitalizes Katie Bell), and another through a bottle of poisoned mead (which would have killed Ron, eventually leading to a reconciliation with Hermione). Almost certain he is behind these horrific events, Harry duels Draco and uses a curse from the Half-Blood Prince's book which severely injures him. Snape heals Draco while Harry retreats. Ginny convinces Harry to close his eyes and let her hide the book in the Room of Requirement to prevent him from using it again. After hiding the book, Ginny kisses Harry.

During private meetings held throughout the year, Dumbledore shows Harry memories of a young Tom Riddle and reveals Slughorn retains a memory critical to Voldemort's defeat. Harry manages to retrieve the memory using Felix Felicis. The memory reveals that Voldemort had been seeking information on Horcruxes, devices that safeguard a portion of the creator's soul, thereby granting him immortality until the Horcrux is destroyed. Dumbledore believes Riddle created six Horcruxes, of which four remain to be destroyed before Voldemort becomes mortal once again.

After learning the location of another Horcrux, Dumbledore requests Harry's help to retrieve it. Deep inside a seaside cave, Harry is forced to make Dumbledore drink a foul, mind-altering liquid that hides the Horcrux, a locket. Though gravely weakened by the liquid, Dumbledore is able to defend them from a horde of inferi and apparates himself and Harry back to Hogwarts.

Once there, Dumbledore first tells Harry to fetch Snape for help, but tells him to hide when footsteps approach. Draco appears and reveals that Voldemort has chosen him to kill Dumbledore, but is unable to follow through. Snape arrives, motions to Harry to stay hidden, and joins the throng of Death Eaters cheering Draco on. To Harry's horror, Snape then casts the Avada Kedavra curse to murder Dumbledore and then escapes the castle with the other Death Eaters. In their wake, they cast the Dark Mark and destroy the Great Hall and eventually set fire to Hagrid's Hut. Harry tries to stop them, but Snape deflects Harry's spells and stuns him. As Snape departs, he reveals that he is the Half-Blood Prince.

While Hogwarts mourns Dumbledore's death, Harry reveals to Ron and Hermione that the locket Horcrux was a fake. The locket contains a message from an "R.A.B." stating he has already taken the real Horcrux and hopes to destroy it before he meets his own demise at the hands of the Dark Lord. Rather than return for their final year at Hogwarts, Harry and his friends vow to seek out R.A.B. and the remaining Horcruxes as Dumbledore's phoenix, Fawkes, flies into the horizon.

Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen is an upcoming science fiction/action film due for release on June 24, 2009. It is the sequel to 2007's Transformers, which was the first live action Transformers film. Michael Bay and Steven Spielberg return respectively as director and executive producer, while Shia LaBeouf reprises the role of Sam Witwicky, the human caught in the war between Autobots and Decepticons. The film introduces many more robots and the scope has been expanded to numerous countries, the most important of which is Egypt.
The main hurdle in getting the film produced was overcoming the 2007–2008 Writers Guild of America strike, as well as possible strikes by the Directors Guild of America and the Screen Actors Guild. Bay finished his production on time with the help of previsualization and a scriptment by his writers Roberto Orci, Alex Kurtzman, and series newcomer Ehren Kruger. Shooting from May to November 2008 predominantly took place in the United States, including the majority of scenes set in outside countries, a minimum of which was conducted in those actual nations.

Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen

Premise
Sam Witwicky (Shia LaBeouf) discovers something about the origins of the Transformers and their history on Earth after receiving visions from a remaining piece of the Allspark. The evil Decepticons need to capture him for information. The climactic battle takes place at the Giza pyramid complex, where a temple is located within.Lorenzo di Bonaventura explained the film will start before the pyramids were built, tying the Transformers to the beginning of civilization, and implying that "all our heroes end up here because of the Decepticons' master plan." Furthermore, Egyptian hieroglyphs resembling helicopters and other present day vehicles in real life will be explained in the film as being depictions of those Ancient Cybertronians who visited Earth.
Bay explained the battle at Mission City did not expose the Transformers to the public. "Everybody has gone ahead. It's realistic. Two weeks after the tsunami nobody talked about it anymore. It's very weird. We decided to do the same with the Transformers. The government talks about a military thing, says all is false, that it's a joke, and people don't know what they really saw." Orci cited the Phoenix Lights incident as an inspiration for how the Transformers manage to stay covert after the previous film, and added it was an interesting idea for how would the government "hide Optimus Prime".The human soldiers have joined the Autobots' ranks in a team called NEST (Networked Elements: Supporters and Transformers).A government front called McClaren Robotics covers up the robot sightings, and they have an Allspark shard kept in storage in Diego Garcia.

Cast and characters
Humans
  • Shia LaBeouf plays Sam Witwicky, the teenager who killed Megatron. He attends an East Coast college to learn astronomy. On July 27, 2008, LaBeouf was involved in a car crash, with fellow actress Isabel Lucas, and had to undergo hand surgery. The character getting burned in the story was an unrelated decision. LaBeouf said production was only delayed by two days after his accident because Bay made up for it by filming second unit scenes, and he recovered from the accident a few weeks earlier than expected, allowing him to return to the set. Bay had suggested the hand injury will be written into the story, but Orci said on-set rewrites were done to protect his hand for the remainder of the shoot.Towards the end of filming though, LaBeouf injured his eye when he hit a prop, which required seven stitches. He resumed filming two hours later.
  • Megan Fox plays Mikaela Banes, Sam's girlfriend, who cannot afford to attend college with him, and gets a job mending bikes and motorcycles. Fox cannot ride bikes in reality and had to have someone push her vehicle around as she rode on them. Fox had lost a lot of weight for her role in Jennifer's Body, and had to gain ten pounds within three weeks. She explained "Michael doesn't like skinny girls."
  • Josh Duhamel plays Captain William Lennox, a U.S. Army Ranger and ally of the Autobots.Since the first film Lennox has become part of NEST, an international taskforce battling Decepticons with the Autobots.
  • Tyrese Gibson plays Robert Epps, a U.S. Air Force Combat Controller and a member of NEST. He has been promoted to the rank of Master Sergeant.
  • John Turturro plays Reggie Simmons, former agent of the terminated Sector 7 unit, which monitored Transformer activity on Earth. He is now off-duty, working in his mother's deli restaurant when Sam enlists his aid. Turturro was allowed to climb the real pyramids during filming.

Autobots
  • Peter Cullen voices Optimus Prime, the Autobot leader. He retains his alternate mode of a blue Peterbilt truck with red flame decals. Cullen recorded a voiceover for the opening scene in August 2008, but began the majority of voice work in November.A live action cameo has been written for Cullen.
  • Mark Ryan voices Bumblebee, the Autobot who befriended Sam and disguises himself as his fifth-generation Chevrolet Camaro. Ryan also continued his role as stand-in for the robots on set. Bumblebee's voice is still healing and he still uses radio soundbites to express some of his emotions. Sam cannot take him to college as they do not allow freshmen to have cars on campus, and he'll also be forced to leave the Witwickies' garage due to an incident that resulted in Bumblebee wrecking their house. The filmmakers used the Super Sport version of the 2010 Camaro rather than the concept version. Ed Welburn, vice president of GM Global Design, said the redesigned car emphasized Bumblebee as becoming stronger after having his severed legs reattached in the first film: the new intakes and spoilers show he is a sturdier character.
  • Jess Harnell voices Ironhide, the Autobot weapons specialist who transforms into a GMC Topkick.
  • Robert Foxworth voices Ratchet, the Autobot medic who transforms into a search and rescue Hummer H2.
  • John Turturro voices Jetfire,a former Decepticon who transforms into a SR-71 Blackbird. His wounds and age have made him choose to become an Autobot. He can combine with Optimus, an idea previously seen in the Transformers: Armada series. The writers wanted a geriatric robot, and during scripting they gave Jetfire that personality. He creaks, does not transform well, and is said to be running out of Energon. Turturro offered to voice the character because he thought it would be a fun part.
  • The Sisters, three Autobots with feminine appearances and personalities. Whether to explain robotic gender or not was something the writers were unsure about, and it remained undecided until post-production.
  • Arcee, a pink motorcycle.Arcee was dropped from the first film due to concerns of her being too small compared to the other bots, and the fact that the writers felt there was not enough time to explain her "gender", although she and several other female Transformers appeared in the first film's toy line and tie-in comics.
  • Chromia, a blue motorcycle. In the 1980s cartoon, Chromia was Ironhide's girlfriend, something reflected by the film version's toy biography, which states Chromia was "friends with Ironhide for centuries, and their reunion on Earth was one of the high points of the war for both of them. Now they work side by side, hunting and destroying Decepticons. Neither of them has ever been happier."
  • A currently unnamed purple motorcycle.
  • Mudflap and Skids, also known as the Twins, who transform respectively into a red Chevrolet Trax and green Chevrolet Beat. Mudflap is very hyperactive, while Skids believes himself to be the smarter of the two and tries to come across as mature, but nevertheless appears unable to keep quiet. Bay compared the message of the bumbling but heroic characters to the story The Little Engine That Could He chose the Beat and Trax for the Autobot twins because he thought those two small cars looked good together.Ed Welburn added when they had designed the cars before Bay selected them, the "character" they wanted to bring to the concepts was a sense that small cars could be as cool as large ones. The Twins have the ability to combine. They start the film by combining into an ice cream van, and at some point they combine to form a bigger robot.
  • Sideswipe, a silver Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Concept.
  • Jolt, a blue Chevrolet Volt. Being an electric car, Jolt's weapons are a pair of electric whips. He was a last-minute addition to the cast as General Motors, the film's car supplier, wanted to promote the Volt. The writers had already wanted to include the car in the script before the Writers Guild strike, so they had to work out a character that would fit well within the Autobot team afterwards and convince Bay to approve the addition.Welburn was pleased the Volt's character was christened Jolt by the filmmakers, as it reflected that car's design "character".
  • Wheelie, a small radio-controlled monster truck. Wheelie initially serves the Decepticons because he is frightened of them, so he joins the Autobots.

Zhang Ziyi Biography

Zhang Ziyi (Chinese: 章子怡, pinyin: Zhāng Zǐyí; born February 9, 1979) is a Chinese film actress and singer. Zhang is considered one of the Four Young Dan actresses (四小花旦) in China, along with Zhao Wei, Xu Jinglei, and Zhou Xun. With a string of Chinese and international hits to her name, she has worked with renowned directors such as Zhang Yimou, Ang Lee, Wong Kar-Wai, Chen Kaige, Jackie Chan, Seijun Suzuki and Rob Marshall.

Zhang was born and raised in Beijing, China, the daughter of Zhang Yuan Xiao, an economist, and Li Zhou Sheng, a kindergarten teacher.Zhang joined the Beijing Dance Academy at the age of 11. When Zhang's parents suggested she attend the school, she was skeptical. While at this boarding school, she noticed how catty the other girls were while competing for status amongst the teachers. Zhang disliked the attitudes of peers and teachers, so much that, on one occasion, she ran away from the school.
Zhang entered China's prestigious Central Academy of Drama (regarded as the top acting college in China) at the age of 15.

At the age of 19, Zhang was offered her first role in Zhang Yimou's The Road Home, which won the Silver Bear award in the 2000 Berlin Film Festival.
Zhang further rose to fame due to her role as the headstrong Jen (Chinese version: Xia Long) in the phenomenally successful Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, for which she won several awards in the West, such as Chicago Film Critics Association Awards, Toronto Film Critics Association Awards and Independent Spirit Awards. Zhang's first appearance in an American movie was in Rush Hour 2, but because she didn't speak English at the time, Jackie Chan had to interpret everything the director said to her. In the movie, her character's name, "Hu Li," is translated from Mandarin Chinese to "Fox".
Zhang then appeared in Hero, with her early mentor Yimou, which was a huge success in the English-speaking world and nominated for an Oscar and a Golden Globe award. Her next film was the avant-garde drama Purple Butterfly by Lou Ye, which competed at the 2003 Cannes Film Festival. Zhang went back to the martial arts genre with House of Flying Daggers (十面埋伏), which earned her a Best Actress nomination from the British Academy of Film and Television Arts.
In 2046, directed by Wong Kar-wai, starring many of the best-known Chinese actors and actresses, Zhang was the female lead and won the Hong Kong Film Critics' Best Actress Award and the Hong Kong Film Academy's Best Actress Award.
Showing her whimsical musical tap-dancing side, Zhang starred in Princess Raccoon, directed by Japanese legend Seijun Suzuki, who was honored at the 2005 Cannes Film Festival.

In 2005, Zhang landed the lead role of Sayuri in the film adaptation of the international bestseller Memoirs of a Geisha. There was a slight controversy in Japan about a Chinese woman portraying a Japanese Geisha. For the film, she reunited with her 2046 co-star Gong Li and with her Crouching Tiger co-star Michelle Yeoh. For the role, Zhang received a 2006 Golden Globe Award nomination, a Screen Actors Guild Award nomination and a BAFTA nomination.
Zhang has also been known to sing, and was featured on the House of Flying Daggers soundtrack with her own musical rendition of the ancient Chinese poem, Jia Rén Qu (佳人曲, The Beauty Song). The song was also featured in two scenes in the film.

On June 27, 2005, it was announced that Zhang had accepted an invitation to join the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS), placing her among the ranks of those able to vote on the Academy Awards.
In May 2006, Zhang became the youngest member to sit on the jury of the Cannes Film Festival. In the fall of 2006, Zhang played Empress Wan in The Banquet (Yè Yàn 夜宴), a film set in the Tang Dynasty.
Zhang provided the voice of Karai in the TMNT movie that was released on March 23, 2007. She later starred in Forever Enthralled (Mei Lanfang) (2008) and will appear in The Horsemen (2009) with Dennis Quaid.

Star Trek XI

Star Trek is a 2009 science fiction film directed by J. J. Abrams, written by Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman, and produced by Damon Lindelof and Bryan Burk. It is the eleventh film based on the Star Trek franchise and features the main characters of the original Star Trek series, who are portrayed by a new cast. It explores the backstories of James T. Kirk (Chris Pine) and Spock (Zachary Quinto), before they unite aboard the USS Enterprise to combat Nero (Eric Bana), a Romulan from the future who threatens the United Federation of Planets. The film will be released in conventional theaters and some IMAX theaters on May 7, 2009. In North America, it will open May 8 following advance screenings starting at 7pm the night before.
Development of the film began in 2005 when Paramount Pictures contacted Abrams, Orci and Kurtzman for ideas to revive the franchise. The creative team contrasted Orci and Lindelof, who consider themselves "Trekkies", with casual fans like Abrams, who all aimed to create a film that would interest a general audience. They wanted to be faithful to Star Trek canon, but they also introduced elements of their favorite novels, modified continuity with the time travel storyline, and modernized the production design of the original show. Filming took place from November 2007 to March 2008 under intense secrecy. Midway through the shoot, Paramount chose to delay the release date from December 25, 2008 to May 7 (May 8 in North America), 2009, believing the film could reach a wider audience.

The Rock : Race to Witch Mountain

Race to Witch Mountain is a re-imagining of the 1975 film Escape to Witch Mountain. Both versions of the film are based on the 1968 novel Escape to Witch Mountain by author Alexander Key. The film is directed by Andy Fickman and stars Dwayne Johnson, AnnaSophia Robb, Alexander Ludwig, and Carla Gugino.
Filming began in Los Angeles in March 2008. Race to Witch Mountain was released on March 13, 2009.
This is Dwayne Johnson's second Disney movie, the first one was the 2007 family comedy The Game Plan, coincidentally also directed by Andy Fickman.
This is also AnnaSophia Robb's second Disney movie, the first one was the 2007 fantasy-drama Bridge To Terabithia.

Plot
During the opening credits, news of UFO sightings around the world appear.
Jack Bruno (Dwayne Johnson) is a cab driver in Las Vegas, who is picking up and dropping off passengers to the UFO convention at the Planet Hollywood Casino and Hotel. One of his passengers is Dr. Alex Friedman (Carla Gugino), a failed scientist who is giving speeches about legitimate scientific theories of UFOs and outer space.
The next day Bruno is approached by two large men telling him that Wolff would like to see him. After fighting them, Bruno drives off, later noticing two children, Sara (AnnaSophia Robb) and Seth (Alexander Ludwig) sitting in the back seat of the cab. They tell him they need to go to a certain destination and are willing to pay all they have ($15,000) to get there. They lead him to a run down house in the middle of nowhere. Meanwhile, Major Henry Burke (Ciaran Hinds) is searching for information on the two aliens that landed some days earlier.
When they arrive at the house, the children tell Bruno that they will be re-united with their relatives soon. Before leaving Bruno hears a crash coming from the house. He is startled to find them hiding behind a couch. Though grateful for his concern, the children tell him they must continue their journey without him, as they can trust no one. Nevertheless, Bruno decides to follow them, which leads him to the basement of the house. There the kids are pursued and attacked by a strange creature as they retrieve an object in a plant. They manage to escape from this creature.
When leaving they are attacked by a "Siphon", a creature built to destroy a certain target—in this case the children. The Siphon pursues them until it causes a crash of his spaceship into a train, the creature survives, though wounded. The trio eventually find themselves in a small town, hiding. They explain to Bruno that they are aliens from an distant planet, who are sent to Earth by their parents because the government of their dying planet intends to attack and invade Earth so that their kind may live on there. They also explain that the object they obtained at the house contains the results of an experiment which their parents set up. The research from this experiment will save their planet without having to attack and invade Earth. However their planet's military prefer the idea of invading Earth and sent the Siphon assassin to stop them. They are next pursued by government agencies trying to retrieve the children for experiments.
They are joined by Dr. Friedman at the UFO Expo, who is familiar with outer space and travel. When the Siphon arrives, it prepares to attack but Sara uses her powers to knock him through a wall. At first the children are captured along with Bruno and Friedman. Nevertheless the two humans escape and come to rescue the kids. The Siphon causes a distraction by attacking the base. They manage to free the children and reach their ship. By running the Siphon over they can escape but the Siphon hangs on and gets on board. Bruno and Seth battle the Siphon in the lower sections of the ship, unmasking him in the fight. Finally, Bruno defeats the evil alien by knocking him out of the ship's airlock, which kills him. Nothing is mentioned about the fate of Henry Burke, though he was last seen disappointed and upset for his failure and was talking to his boss on the phone, with a possibility of getting fired. The kids drop Jack and Alex off and after a tearful goodbye, they head back to their ship, but give Bruno and Alex a device that will allow the kids to always find them. And Sara gives Jack the power to use his brain to the mind reading ability.
During the end credits, Bruno and Dr. Friedman (now a couple) are speaking at a UFO convention about their new successful book called "Race to Witch Mountain". The last scene shows them driving off in a car Bruno dreamed of getting honestly as he had mentioned to Friedman earlier—a Mustang similar to that driven by Steve McQueen in Bullitt. As they are about to leave, the device the kids gave Bruno before they left goes off, indicating that they may be returning.

Fast & Furious

Fast & Furious (also known as Fast & Furious 4 in other countries) is the fourth film in The Fast and the Furious film series. It is an interquel set between the second and third films (though many viewers have argued that this film is a direct sequel to the first film and does away with the second altogether). The film was released in the United States on April 3, 2009. The plot connects with the original film of the series from which Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Michelle Rodriguez, and Jordana Brewster reprise their roles.

Plot
After a successful run at hijacking fuel tanks on the highways of the Dominican Republic, Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) leaves his girlfriend Letty (Michelle Rodriguez) and his gang, as he is now an international criminal. Eventually, Dominic's partner Han (Sung Kang) flees to Tokyo, causing Dominic to also flee. One day, in Panama, Dominic receives a phone call from his sister Mia (Jordana Brewster), who tells him that Letty was just murdered. Dominic returns to Los Angeles, California, to find out who murdered Letty. After Letty's funeral, Dominic asks his sister to take him to the site where Letty's accident occurred. At the scene, Dom finds traces of residue that can only be purchased at one body shop in the city. At the body shop, he finds one of his old racing counterparts that, after being coerced, leads him to a man named David Park. Dominic finds Park and hangs him out of a window threatening to drop him and vowing to kill anyone that stands in his way of avenging Letty. He receives the information that only through a street race, arranged by Ramon Campos, can he gain access to the man responsible for Letty's death.
Meanwhile, Brian O'Connor (Paul Walker)—now an FBI agent, is assigned to track down a notorious drug lord named Arturo Braga. Brian, after chasing down a criminal on foot, receives information also leading to David Park. Both Dominic and Brian, having received the same information are led to the underground entrance race that guarantees them a spot on the team that traffics heroin across the United States-Mexico border. During the race, Dominic and Brian outlast all of their competitors until the two of them remain and head towards the finish line neck and neck, Dominic sideswipes Brian's car ensuring that he comes in first, securing his spot on the team so that he can seek justice on Letty's behalf. Having lost the race, Brian uses his influence at the FBI to ensure that one of the other members on Braga's team gets arrested for "intent to distribute methamphetamine," in order to usurp his spot of the team. At a party, Ramon Campos, Braga's right hand man, welcomes them to the team and gives them a GPS that will alert them to where they will begin their race. Dominic ends up in a confrontation with a racer identified as Fenix, the driver of the car that collided with Letty before firing the shot that killed her.
Dominic and Brian both receive the coordinates to meet with Campos and are transported, along with their cars by semi-trailer to the Mexican border to receive the heroin that they are to transport, from there they are to follow Fenix's lead to the other side through an underground tunnel so they aren't seen by the satellite images and forward looking infrared used to monitor the borders. Once on the other side it is realized that the drivers are thought of as disposable and that after successful trafficking of the product they are shot and killed in order to avoid paying them. Letty, having been in the same situation was the only driver to get away when they attempted to shoot her, it was the pursuit that led to her death. Dom, anticipating this, has set his car to explode by discharging nitrous in his car with the spark from the cigarette lighter in his car after he learns from Fenix that he was responsible for killing Letty with no remorse. Brian hijacks one of the Hummers carrying the heroin and he and Dominic escape the gunfire and head back to the U.S., where Dominic learns that Brian was using Letty to get to Braga. When Dominic confronts Brian about this, Brian reveals that Letty had approached Brian to clear Dominic's name. Brian speaks to his superiors about a plan that he has devised to trade the heroin for Braga if they will exonerate Dominic.
An exchange is arranged with Campos, 6 million dollars for the heroin, provided that Braga be the one to deliver the money personally. The FBI is poised to arrest Braga at the exchange site, however, Dominic and Brian both realize that Campos is in fact Braga before the FBI does and the raid is botched. Braga evades capture and flees over the Mexican border out of the FBI's jurisdiction. Due to letting Dominic and Braga escape, Brian is taken off the case but decides to do what's right by assisting Dominic in bringing down Braga, even if he kills him. Brian and Dominic head after him on their own and find him in a cathedral praying for salvation. They kidnap Braga with intent to take him back to the United States where he can be tried and imprisoned for drug trafficking, but after having taken him captive they are chased by Braga's henchmen. The chase leads to the same underground tunnels that they went through in order to transport the drugs into the United States. Once on the United States side of the border, Dominic kills Fenix by crushing him with his car and Braga is finally apprehended by the FBI, as is Dominic.
Dominic is tried for his crimes and, though Brian appealed to the courts on his behalf, is sentenced to "25 years to life without the possibility of early parole." The movie ends with Brian, Mia, Tego, and Rico racing towards the prison bus transporting Dom to the Lompoc penitentiary.

Monsters vs. Aliens

Monsters vs. Aliens

Monsters vs. Aliens is a 2009 computer-animated 3-D feature film from DreamWorks Animation and Paramount Pictures. The movie was the first computer animated movie to be directly produced in a stereoscopic 3-D format instead of converting the film into 3-D after it is finished, which added $15 million extra to the film's budget.
The film was scheduled for a May 2009 release, but it was moved to March 27, 2009, so as to prevent competition with James Cameron's upcoming Avatar, which has since moved its release to December 2009. Monsters vs. Aliens stars the voices of Reese Witherspoon, Seth Rogen, Hugh Laurie, Will Arnett, Rainn Wilson, Kiefer Sutherland, and Stephen Colbert.

Plot
Susan Murphy (Reese Witherspoon) is hit by a radioactive meteor on the day of her wedding to weatherman Derek Dietl (Paul Rudd), absorbing a substance called quantonium and growing into a giantess. Alerted to the meteor crash, the military arrive and capture Susan. She is labeled a monster, renamed "Ginormica", and sent to a top-secret prison facility containing other monsters: B.O.B. (Seth Rogen), a brainless, indestructible gelatinous blob; Dr. Cockroach, Ph.D. (Hugh Laurie), a mad scientist with the head and abilities of a cockroach; the Missing Link (Will Arnett), an amphibious fish-ape hybrid; and Insectosaurus, a colossal grub that is even larger than Susan. The monsters are forbidden to have any contact with the outside world; while the other monsters have been living contentedly with this lifestyle for the past 50 years, Susan feels incredibly isolated and wishes to return to her old life.
An alien named Gallaxhar (Rainn Wilson) detects the quantonium radiation emanating from Earth and deploys a gigantic robotic probe to find it and extract it from its source, Susan. After a botched attempt by the President of the United States (Stephen Colbert) to make first contact with the robot, it begins destroying everything in sight, resisting all conventional military force used against it. General W.R. Monger (Kiefer Sutherland), head of the monster-containment facility, convinces the President to use the monsters to fight the robot instead. The monsters accept the mission with the promise of freedom if they succeed. Arriving in San Francisco, Susan is chased by the robot across the city to the Golden Gate Bridge, where the monsters are able to defeat the robot.
Now free, Susan returns to her hometown and introduces her family and friends to the monsters, who are quickly dejected after innocently causing a panicked ruckus in the neighborhood. Derek, meanwhile, breaks up with Susan, claiming that he can't be married to someone who could overshadow his career. Initially devastated, Susan realizes that becoming a giant has improved her life, and fully embraces her new friends and status as a monster. Suddenly, she is abducted by Gallaxhar, who kills Insectosaurus when he tries to save her. On Gallaxhar's ship, Susan breaks loose and chases Gallaxhar down, only to enter a machine that extracts the quantonium from her body, shrinking her to her normal size. He then proceeds to clone himself into an army so he can invade Earth.
With assistance from General Monger, the monsters infiltrate Gallaxhar's ship, rescue Susan, and hot-wire the ship's power core, activating the ship's self-destruct sequence. Susan, however, is cut off from her friends, who are trapped in the power core and tell her to save herself. Instead, Susan confronts Gallaxhar, who tries to escape with the quantonium, and attempts to force him into releasing her friends. When Gallaxhar says he cannot reverse the sequence, Susan takes the quantonium back and absorbs it, restoring her to her gargantuan size and allowing her to save her friends. The monsters leap out of the exploding ship and are rescued by General Monger on the back of the revived Insectosaurus, who had sealed his own body in a cocoon and transformed into a flying butterfly-like form.
The monster team receives a hero's welcome upon their return. Derek attempts to get back with Susan for the sake of interviewing her, which could benefit his career; insulted, Susan publicly humiliates him instead, declaring her place is with her monster friends. At that moment, the team is alerted to a monster attack near Paris and set off to combat the new menace.

Bride Wars is a 2009 American romantic comedy film directed by Gary Winick and written by Greg DePaul and June Raphael and SNL's Casey Wilson.
The film stars Kate Hudson, Anne Hathaway, Candice Bergen, Bryan Greenberg, Chris Pratt, Steve Howey and Kristen Johnston.

Premise
Emma (Anne Hathaway) and Liv (Kate Hudson) are best friends who have planned every detail of their weddings since childhood. At the top of their bridal "must have" list: a ceremony at New York's ultimate bridal destination, the Plaza Hotel. Now, at age 26, they're both about to get married, they're about to realize their dreams, and they're about to live happily ever after. Or maybe not. When a clerical error causes a clash in wedding dates--they're now to be married on the same day!--Liv, Emma and their lifelong friendship are put to the ultimate test. Liv, a successful lawyer who is used to getting what she wants, including the perfect job and the perfect man, won't settle for anything less than the perfect wedding she has dreamed of for years. Emma, a schoolteacher who has always been good at taking care of others, but not so much in looking after herself, discovers her inner Bridezilla and comes out swinging when her own dream wedding is imperiled. Now, the two best friends who'd do anything for each other find themselves in a no-holds-barred, take-no-prisoners struggle that threatens to erupt into all-out war. The girls both attempt to "sabotage" the other's wedding, including Liv making Emma's tan go bright red, and Emma sending Liv a "treat" of chocolate cookies in order to make her fat. These shenanigans go on, then when the wedding day comes, Liv gives someone a DVD of Emma dancing drunkenly during a Spring Break bash. The DVD shows up at Emma's wedding as she walks down the aisle, making Emma angrily storm into Liv's wedding and tackle Liv. Liv bursts into tears and apologizes for ruining Emma's big day. Emma's boyfriend announces that Emma isn't the girl he thought he was marrying. Emma then tells him that he is in love with the Emma he met 10 years ago, not the Emma that she is now. She realizes that the guy she was going to marry isn't the right guy for her, and calls off the wedding. They share a hug as she takes off the ring, and he walks out of the hall. Emma and Liv make up and the wedding is restarted, this time having Emma give away Liv. During the wedding dance after Liv gets married, Emma is asked to dance by Nate (Bryan Greenberg), Liv's brother, and the two hit it off. As the film ends, Liv and Emma catch up about a year later: Emma is now married to Nate and the past is forgotten. Terminator Salvation

Terminator Salvation is an upcoming American science fiction post-apocalyptic war film set for release on May 21, 2009. Directed by McG, it is the fourth Terminator film and stars Christian Bale as John Connor and Sam Worthington as the Terminator Marcus Wright. It also introduces a young version of the first film's hero, Kyle Reese, played by Anton Yelchin. The film, set in 2018, focuses on the war between humanity and Skynet. It abandons the formula of previous entries in the series, which involved the Terminator and various other characters traveling through time to protect or kill John Connor. It is both a sequel and prequel to the previous films.

Premise
On May 23, 2008, Warner Bros. released the following plot summary for the film. The synopsis was modified on June 11, 2008:
Set in post-apocalyptic 2018, John Connor (Christian Bale), the man fated to be the leader of the human resistance against Skynet and its army of Terminators, and the future he was raised to believe in is altered in part by the appearance of Marcus Wright (Sam Worthington), a stranger whose last memory is of being on death row. Connor must decide whether Marcus has been sent from the future or rescued from the past. As Skynet prepares its final onslaught, Connor and Marcus both embark on an odyssey that takes them into the heart of Skynet's operations, where they find out a terrible secret that may lead to the possible annihilation of mankind.
At the beginning, Connor does not start off as leader of the human resistance, but he will work his way up through the ranks in the film. He is also mistrusted by other soldiers due to his extensive knowledge of Skynet. McG said that it will be about the development of the Model 101 Terminator as well: scenes involve humans being captured and studied by Skynet in order to perfect their cybernetic organisms and Connor explaining "[i]f we let these things go online, the war is over." Skynet captures Kyle Reese because it is aware Reese is Connor's father, and uses him as a bait to kill Connor.

Cast
  • Christian Bale as John Connor: A young soldier waging war against Skynet after it destroyed much of humanity in a nuclear holocaust, who is destined to become humanity's leader. Director McG deemed Bale "the most credible action star in the world" during development. Bale was the first person to be cast and signed on for the role in November 2007. McG talked extensively with Bale in England about the role while the latter was filming The Dark Knight, and they both agreed to move forward. Although a fan of the Terminator series, he was at first uninterested, until McG convinced him the story would be character-based and not rely on special effects. They kept working on the story every day, along with Worthington. McG said Bale broke his hand punching a Terminator prop during filming. Bale also spent six to eight hours each day with McG in the editing room to advise the finished product. During filming, Bale became angry at director of photography Shane Hurlbut, swearing at him and threatening to leave the film; audio of the incident was leaked in February 2009. Bale apologized publicly and said he resolved his differences with Hurlbut, and that when the incident took place they continued to film for a few hours.
  • Sam Worthington as Marcus Wright: A resistance soldier who is plagued with vague memories and is discovered to be a decommissioned Terminator. His last memory is of being on death row, and Connor is unsure of whether Wright is from the past or from the future.Terminator creator James Cameron personally recommended Worthington (whom he directed in Avatar) to McG. Russell Crowe also recommended him to McG. McG decided Worthington looked tougher than the "great many of today's [waify] young male actors".[3] Worthington recalled Cameron told him "the Terminator to make is the one with the war". Worthington tore his intercostal muscles during the first weeks of filming, but he nevertheless insisted on performing his own stunts. McG once expressed interest in casting Daniel Day-Lewis or Josh Brolin in the part. Brolin did talk to Bale and read a draft of the screenplay, which he found "interesting and dark, [but] ultimately, though, I didn't think it felt right".
  • Anton Yelchin as Kyle Reese: A teenage soldier and admirer of John Connor. As portrayed by Michael Biehn in The Terminator, he was sent back in time to 1984 to protect Sarah Connor to ensure the survival of the human race, and he conceived John with her. Yelchin said he wanted to portray Reese just as Biehn did and not make him appear weaker just because it was a younger version of the character. The difference in his portrayal lies in showing Reese is intense, but not concentrated and focused until he joins the resistance proper. Yelchin tried to convey Reese's intensity by focusing on how fast Biehn appeared when running in the original film.
  • Bryce Dallas Howard as Kate Connor: John's wife, who is seven months pregnant. Charlotte Gainsbourg was originally set to play the part, but left due to scheduling conflicts with another film. As portrayed by Claire Danes in the third film, Kate was a veterinarian, but in this film, she is now a physician. Howard suggested, as part of the character's backstory, that Kate studied medical books and interviewed many surviving doctors after the events of Judgement Day. The film's subject matter reminded her of developing countries, devastated by war and lack basic supplies such as clean water, which "reflect[s] things that are going on currently in this privileged world that we're living in where there hasn't been an apocalypse and robots haven't taken over the world. I think that's something definitely for us to reinvestigate and that we continue to make choices for our own future to take that into consideration." Howard also focused on Kate "being accustomed to fear and loss" because the character was a military brat.
  • Moon Bloodgood as Blair Williams: A "no-nonsense and battle-hardened" pilot in the resistance suffering from survivor guilt. She will apparently be a romantic interest for Marcus.
  • Common as Barnes: A resistance soldier and John's right-hand man.
  • Helena Bonham Carter as Serena Kogen: The lead villain of the film. Tilda Swinton was originally considered for the part, but Carter replaced her just before filming. She accepted the part, as her partner, Tim Burton, is a big Terminator fan. Her role was a "small but pivotal" one and would only require ten days of shooting.[24] On August 22, 2008, Carter delayed filming by a day, and was given an indefinite leave due to the death of four of her family members in a minibus accident in South Africa.
  • Arnold Schwarzenegger and Roland Kickinger as the T-800 Model 101: Schwarzenegger provides his voice, while the Austrian bodybuilder Kickinger was Schwarzenegger's double on set. Digital makeup was used to make him resemble the previous T-800 actor. Kickinger previously portrayed Schwarzenegger in a 2005 biographical film on the A&E Network. McG explained he wanted the T-800 to look like the younger Schwarzenegger in the 1984 film. Polish strongman athlete Mariusz Pudzianowski was also considered for doubling Schwarzenegger.
  • Additional cast members include Brian Steele as a T-600, Jadagrace as Star, a girl in Reese's care, Chris Ashworth as Richter, Chris Browning as Morrison, Michael Ironside as General Ashdown, the resistance leader before John, Jane Alexander as a refugee, and Terry Crews. Linda Hamilton has been confirmed to reprise her role as Sarah Connor in voice-overs that opens and closes the movie; they are from tapes Sarah recorded before her death prior to the film's events to warn John of the future war.
