'Max Payne' tops box office

LOS ANGELES (AFP) – "Max Payne" marked a successful transition from video game star to movie hero as the film debuted atop the North American box office at the weekend, final figures showed Monday.
The noir, fantasy-tinged movie, based on the best-selling video game and starring Mark Wahlberg as an undercover New York cop hell-bent on revenge, earned 17.6 million dollars, box office tracker Exhibitor Relations said.
Payne knocked the pooches of "Beverly Hills Chihuahua" off their number one perch and easily outstripped Oliver Stone's biopic of President George W. Bush, "W", which opened in fourth place.
Walt Disney's "Beverly Hills Chihuahua", about a pampered pup forced to fend for herself on Mexico's mean streets, was second with 11.4 million dollars.
Buzzing into third place in its debut weekend was "The Secret Life of Bees," a sweet story of a young white girl (Dakota Fanning) taken in by three African-American sisters. The film, an adaptation of Sue Monk Kidd's best-selling book, took in 10.53 million dollars.
Stone's hotly anticipated "W." was closely behind in fourth, earning 10.5 million dollars.
Slipping one notch to fifth, with a seven-million-dollar take, was "Eagle Eye," a futuristic thriller starring young Hollywood phenomenon Shia LaBeouf about a villain who infiltrates phones, televisions and computers.
In sixth place was the Ridley Scott-directed spy thriller "Body of Lies", starring Russell Crowe and Leonardo DiCaprio, which earned 6.8 million.
"Quarantine," last weekend's second place finisher about a television crew trapped in a small apartment building whose residents have been infected with a new strain of rabies, slipped to seventh, earning six million dollars.
Romantic comedy "Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist," featuring "Juno" and "Superbad" star Michael Cera, took eighth place, with 3.7 million dollars.
Debuting in ninth spot was "Sex Drive," which follows the tried-and-true formula of teen sex comedy -- 18-year-old virgin protagonist obsesses over losing virginity -- to earn 3.6 million dollars.
Big-screen veterans Diane Lane and Richard Gere try to rekindle some romance in "Nights in Rodanthe," which rounded out the top 10 with 2.6 million dollars.

Are Hollywood New Released Movies Going to be All Remakes?

ll Right! Who's up for a night of movies, buttered popcorn, your favorite candy and ice cold slushies? A show of hands please. Yeah, just what I thought, pretty much everyone is. I doubt we will ever get tired of America's greatest national treasure, watching new released movies. Whether it's in the comfort of our own homes, or in the local movie theater, we are in love with watching movies. But wait a minute! As with most good things, there is a bad side or two. Have you ever noticed that most of the movie review guys are over-weight? What do you think you would look like if you went to every new release movie and ate all of that buttery popcorn and calorie laden candy? Can you say Big Fat Fatty? I guess a good Hollywood film is worth a little fat.

The thing that really aggravates me is the way Hollywood is spitting out all of those movie remakes and stamping them as new released movies. Can anyone tell me why are all the new released movies are re-makes of old flicks, TV shows, cartoon characters or comic book heroes? Come to think of it, how many comic book heroes are there anyway? Can't anyone use their imagination anymore? This is really starting to bother me. I have to go see how many comic book super hero new released movies?

I probably shouldn't complain so much. After all, one of my favorite movies is Robin Hood with Errol Flynn and all though it is considered a movie classic, it was just another new released movie remake. Another good new released movie I went to see was Peter Jackson's re-make of the film "King Kong." OK, I'll admit it. There are some good movie remakes out there but the reason this film was good was Peter Jackson who just finished making the critically acclaimed and Academy Award winning "Lord Of The Rings" trilogy was completely obsessed with remaking "King Kong", and although he used all of today's special effects technology to help him pull it off; it was the fact that he pretty much stuck to the plot combined with good acting that made this a successful new released movie. It took a really good director to make it again and show what it truly could be using today's technology.

Alright, just because I just mentioned a couple of good remakes and I'm sure there are more, doesn't get all the other poorly made new released movies off the hook. Someone please tell me, why in the world did they re-make "The Omen"? In my opinion the original Omen was fantastic. The movie wasn't that old, they really couldn't improve on the special effects and the lead actor was Gregory Peck, need I say more. There are times when some thing is done so well it just can not be improved upon, and this was one of them. When a movie is that good, why can't they just re-release the original movie as a new released movie, why do they have to remake it?

For some reason they remake horror films more than any other genre. And I understand that with today's superior special effects the temptation is just too strong not to want to remake everyone's favorite scary movies. But, guess what Hollywood? The reason most people go to see a new released horror or hack and slash movie is the suspense, the unknown. Guess what? When you remake a horror or hack and slash movie, the suspense is gone, the unknown is known. Use your collective imaginations and make a completely original new released movie so we can start using our imaginations once again. I have actually heard remakes called "re-imaginations" and that's a sad thing. So please stop taking the "thrill" out of the thriller.

Listen, I think I have a solution to this whole new released movies and movie remake problem. I understand that you are releasing more new movies than ever and that they are being shown in the movie theatres for less time than ever so they can be re-released as DVD's for sale or rent in places like Blockbuster and Hollywood Movies or sold as PPV to cable networks. I understand it's all about the money, but why not remake movies that didn't fare so well when they were new released movies. Take those movies that have a decent plot but because the producers didn't have a very big budget or the director sucked or the actors couldn't act and do whatever it takes to make them good movies that we will enjoy watching, slap a new title on them and put them in theatres as new released movies. Sounds like a money making plan to me. Before I end this, I was thinking of doing a remake of this article instead of writing a new one. What do you think? Let me know. In the mean time, surf on over to Movies, Music, Games & More and download all of the new released movies and movie remakes you want for free.

Classic Movies Vs. Digital Movies

Modern movie viewers want to see rapid-fire action, a simple plot and a lot of special effects. In the last few years the most successful movies were the big budget movies, with a lot of explosions and beautiful actresses. Of course, we can’t criticize a person for what movies he or she likes and dislikes but the movies of real quality offer more than spectacular explosions and beautiful women.

For example, in the early days of the movie industry, there weren’t no special effects due to the fact that technology was just beginning to develop. Back in the old days, movies had a complex and intelligent plot; in those days you judged a movie by how well the actors performed, how good the plot was; nowadays, people judge movies by the quantity of TNT used, the computer generated special effects used, the number of girls that are in the movie and let’s not forget that a good movie must have a plot as simple as it can be. I’m not saying that all modern movies are bad, but let’s be frank, most of them have these ingredients, and you can’t blame the producers because if the audience wants to see one of the mentioned, you have to give them that so that they can make a pretty buck.

Getting back to old movies, in those days, there weren’t any computers, no special effects; it came down to the actors, which in my opinion are the most important part in a movie. Let’s not forget that black and white movies have a special look which can’t be found in today’s computerized movies. It took hard work to make a movie back in the days, it took even years to make some of the movies in comparison to present, when movies are made on a regular basics. To fully comprehend this aspect I have two questions: What car would you buy? A car manually built or a car which was made in a few hours by robots? Which is of more quality? The answer is obvious, at least in my opinion: the manually built one because it is far better, of greater quality.

It is the exact situation with movies; if you see a computerized movie that means you have seen them all, they are all the same in comparison with classic movies which are different because every producer, director came with something new, something that hasn’t been seen before, that is way movies were interesting because not only producers but also actors struggled to give their best to attract movie fans.
Some examples of great movies that all movie enthusiasts mustn’t miss are : 1. “Casablanca”; 2. “Gone With The Wind”; 3. “Mr. Smith Goes To Washington”; 4. “Sunset Boulevard”; 5. “It Happened One Night” and others as well. These 5 movies are classics: great actors, great performances, great producers, everything is great about these movies.

Some of you probably don’t like old movies; I have some piece of advice: try watching the colorized versions of some classic movies, you might change your mind about these movies; these movies have a lot to offer, give them a try, I can assure you that you won’t regret watching Gone With The Wind, for example.

All things considered, most of the old movies are of very high quality with the accent put on the actors not on the special effects which in those days were inexistent. Don’t get me wrong, some of today’s movies are great but most of them can’t be compared to the old movies like Alfred Hitchcock’s “ The Birds” or Ernst Lubitsch’s “Trouble In Paradise”.

Where to Watch Online Movies and Download Them For Free

Do you want to know where and how to watch online movies and download them for free? Does your PC have a high speed Internet connection such as a cable modem or DSL? If it does then you are well on your way to watching movies online, including new released movies online, classic movies online and all of the rest of your favorite films. Don't laugh, but I'm a big western's fan and I watch western movies free online as much as I can. In fact, if I did not have a job I would watch movies online all day long. Did I forget to mention that these are full length movies, not just free movie trailer downloads.

Not only will I tell how you can watch all of the new released movies online you want, but I am also going to tell you where to find this awesome site that let's you download unlimited free TV shows and movies online while you are watching free online movie streams. But, hold on a minute, because along with all of your free movie downloads and free TV show downloads, you can also download free games, anime, software, ringtones, wallpaper and more.

Do you find yourself renting a lot of movies? Whenever the new released movies hit the theaters, many people find themselves sitting in front of the big screen with a tub of popcorn in their lap and a boat load of money gone from their wallet. The prices we pay to watch a new release blockbuster has gotten out of hand (or is that out of wallet). The Hollywood film industry is an enormous business and the movie producers are more than willing to gamble millions of dollars making movies because they know that movie lovers like ourselves are willing to cough up their hard earned money to go the movie theater and watch their film. If we don't fork over our cash at the movie theater the movie moguls have a back-up plan. Can you say DVD?

Video palaces like Blockbuster are only too happy to help us spend the money that we tried saving by not going to the movie theater. Can't get to your local video store to rent or buy new released DVD's? No problem, the movie industry has that covered too. Blockbuster and Netflix will mail them right to your mailbox. It used to be cheap to enjoy a good movie, but no more. Well, I for one have had it. Sometime during the last two Presidential terms a recession has invaded our economy and it is only getting more expensive to live.

Understandably, we have to cut back during these bleak times, but we still need some entertainment or we will all go mad! Joining an unlimited free movie downloads membership is how you can save a bunch of money and watch all of the movies you want, whenever you want. By joining a free online movies membership you can watch the latest movies online for next to nothing. If you do what I do you can even build yourself a massive movie library that will be the envy of your neighborhood. Whenever I enjoy watching a movie online, I either burn it to a DVD or copy it to CD. I now have a library of over 60 movie titles. They are not a bunch of B rated movies like you would expect for free movie downloads. These are mostly all blockbusters like "Braveheart", "Gladiator", "Shawshank Redemption", "The Green Mile", "The Harry Potter Movie Series" and "The Lord of the Rings Trilogy" to name just a few great movies that I first watched online. I also enjoy watching TV movies online as well as the TV series and just like the online movies I watch and then copy afterwards, I do the same with the TV shows I like. I now have a couple of seasons of "24" plus "Lost" and "Heroes" (my favorite). Keep reading and learn how I do it.

So how you can save money and watch movies online 24/7, plus build yourself a massive movie library that will make your friends jealous? The first thing you want to do is find a reputable unlimited free movie downloads review site. They review all of the different sites that offer free downloadable movies and recommend the very best ones. There are a lot of scam sites that say you can watch movies online for free but when the smoke clears you end up paying a lot of money or are downloading someone's backyard quality videos. I will leave you a link for a good movie review site in the resource box below.

Next, I am going to tell you how to find an unlimited free movie downloads site that has "Value". All of the really good unlimited free movie downloads sites charge a one time only membership fee you need to join prior to getting all of your free movie downloads. These one time membership fee's only cost between $35 and $50 and before you begin running around the room yelling "I knew it, it's a Scam! It's a Scam!" allow me to explain to you exactly what the membership fee is all about and how it benefits you in your quest to download free online movies.

When you join a membership to download free online movies, the first place you will enter is called the members area. A good members area should have everything you will require to watch movies online, download free movies and copy or burn movies to CD's and/or DVD's. There should plenty of easy to understand step-by-step tutorials, manuals and/or videos to show you how to download free online movies. In addition to gaining access to all of your unlimited free movie downloads, the members area is where you will also gain access to the databases for free TV show downloads, free software downloads, free music and music video downloads as well as free ringtones, wallpaper, eBooks, game cheats, music lyrics and more. It costs money to keep the members area up to date with the latest movies, music, games and more, not to mention giving you around the clock technical support in case you run into any problems.

Finally, it can get very expensive to keep a website going online. When I began my website it cost me $15 in hosting fees per month. As my site grew in popularity and my traffic increased, so did my hosting fees, and a year later my site costs me over $200 per month. If my site costs that much to host, I can only imagine what an unlimited free movie downloads site costs with the amount of traffic they receive on a daily basis.

I told you all of this rather boring stuff so you could understand why there is a membership fee. The world would indeed be a nicer place if people we didn't even know were willing to spend all of that money so we could download free online movies, TV shows and more. As it is, look at the value we are getting. Remember my personal library of 60 movies? If you wanted to build a similar sized library of Hollywood blockbuster films, it would cost you roughly $1200 to purchase them at your local video store.

By joining an unlimited free movie downloads site, for less than $50 you not only get to download free online movies, one of my favorite free movie download sites lets you watch online movies while you are waiting for your downloads. If you break it down, my library of 60 crystal clear DVD quality movies cost me less than $0.90 per movie, and that is not including my free TV show downloads, free games, software, music, music video's plus everything else I have downloaded for my personal use. Here is the best part. I can continue downloading free online movies, TV shows and the rest for a lifetime with absolutely no more fees. Talk about value and these sites are completely adware and spyware free. We were just talking about my movie collection, but this can be your collection of free online movies that we are talking about. You can gain immediate access to all the free online movies you desire today! See you at the movies!

Mark Wahlberg

Mark Robert Michael Wahlberg was born June 5th, 1971 in the poor working class district of Boston known as Dorchester, the youngest of nine children. His parents were Alma & Donald Wahlberg. The large Wahlberg brood didn't have a lot growing up, especially after his parents divorced when he was eleven. The kids crammed into a three bedroom apartment, none of them having very much privacy. After the divorce, Mark's mother has said that she became very self-absorbed with her own problems. She blames herself for her son's subsequent problems and delinquency. Wahlberg dropped out of high school at age 14 (but later got his GED) to pursue a life of petty crime and drugs. He'd spend his days scamming and stealing, working on the odd drug deal before treating himself to the substances himself. The young man also had a violent streak - one which was often aimed at minorities. At age 16, he was convicted of assault against two Vietnamese men after he had tried to rob them. As a result of his assault conviction, he was sentenced to serve 50 days in prison at Deer Island penitentiary. Whilst there, he began working out to pass time and, when he emerged at the end of his sentence, he had gone from being a scrawny young kid to a buff young man. Wahlberg also credits the jail time as being his motivation to improve his lifestyle and leave the crime behind him. Once he was released, Mark rejoined his family, who were now in the national spotlight. His older brother Donnie Wahlberg was a member of the 1980's singing sensation New Kids on the Block. Mark himself had been an original member of the band but had backed out early on - uncomfortable with the squeaky clean image of the group. A precursor to the boy-band craze, New Kids on the Block were dominating the charts and were on top of their game. Donnie decided to help his little brother out and tried to get him on the straight and narrow. He pulled some strings and got Mark set up with a recording contract. Despite a lack of singing ability, promoters took to his dance moves and a physique they knew teenage girls would love. Donnie scripted some easy songs for Mark, who collected a troupe of dancers and a DJ to become his "Funky Bunch" and "Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch" was born. His debut album, "Music for the People", was a smash hit, which was propelled along by the rapper's willingness to disrobe down to boxer-briefs on stage, not to mention several catchy tunes. Teenage girls thrilled to the rapping "bad boy". Record producer David Geffen saw in Wahlberg a cash-cow of marketing ability. After speaking to designer Calvin Klein, Marky Mark was set up as the designer's chief underwear model. His scantily clad figure soon adorned billboards across the nation. Ironically, while the New Kids on the Block's fame was dwindling as audiences tired of their syrupy lyrics, "Marky Mark"'s bad boy image was becoming even more of a commodity. He was constantly in the headlines (often of the tabloids) after multiple scandals. In 1992, he released a book dedicated to his penis. Wahlberg was constantly getting into rumored fights, most memorably with Madonna and her entourage at a Los Angeles party. While things were always intense, they were relatively harmless and made for enjoyable reading for the public. However, when the story of his arrest for assault (and the allegations of racism) broke in the press, things took on a decidedly darker note. People were not amused. Soon after, while on a British talk show along with rapper Shabba Ranks, he got into even more trouble. After Ranks made the statement that gays should be crucified, Wahlberg was accused of condoning the comments by his silence. Marky Mark was suddenly surrounded by charges of brutality, homophobia and racial hatred. His second album, "You Gotta Believe", had not been faring well and, after the charges surfaced, it plummeted from the charts. Adding to the hoopla, Wahlberg was brought to court for allegedly assaulting a security guard. He was ordered to make amends by appearing in a series of anti-bias advertisements. Humbled and humiliated by his fall from grace in the music world, Wahlberg decided to pursue another angle, acting. He dropped the "Marky Mark" moniker and became known simply as Mark Wahlberg. His first big screen role came in Penny Marshall's Renaissance Man (1994). Despite the name change, many people snickered at the idea of the has-been rapper thinking he could make it as an actor. From the get-go, he was proving them wrong. In Renaissance Man (1994), he gave an utterly charming performance as a simple but sincere army recruit. What naysayers remained found it increasingly difficult to write Mark Wahlberg off as he delivered one fine performance after another. He blew them away in the controversial The Basketball Diaries (1995) and chilled them in Fear (1996) as every father's worst nightmare. Wahlberg hit a high point in Paul Thomas Anderson's Boogie Nights (1997), in which he metamorphosed from shy young "Eddie Adams" into egomaniac porn star "Dirk Diggler". Critics and audiences were impressed with the young actor's range and abilities, not to mention certain other attributes. It seems as though Mark Wahlberg has finally put bad boy "Marky Mark" behind him. While some controversy remains (Wahlberg denies ever having been a racist), he is now taken much more seriously than he ever was before. He is one of the few teen pop sensations to survive through it and come out on top.
